Market OverviewA portable multispectral imaging device for equitable and evidence-based bruise detection and age determination.
When inspecting for bruising, users can open the accompanying DermaVision mobile application, which functions similarly to the native camera application. Each region of interest can be imaged in 5-10 seconds and annotated with patient information such as age, sex, and injury location. Our analysis software will generate a full report of the bruise timeline, which can then be stored locally or transferred securely to partnering evidence collection services such as evidence.com. This information can then be referenced in clinical evaluations or during legal cases.
Bruised skin contains a diverse set of biological molecules, many of which contribute to bruises’ distinct color. Throughout the bruise healing process, the balance of these molecules changes, leading to the shift in bruise color. By imaging bruises under different colors of light, including outside the visible spectrum, the DermaSpect can determine this chemical balance more effectively than the naked eye or traditional cameras. By comparing multispectral images to our existing database, we can estimate bruise age quantitatively. Furthermore, the full spectrum of light allows for better bruise recognition across all skin tones.
With our IRB-approved clinical prototype, we have currently imaged 70+ bruises across 50+ patients. DermaVision tracks patient skin tone and bruise age distributions, aiming to represent as much of the population as possible. Moving forward, we hope to continue improving coverage at the extreme ends of the skin tone spectrum. While we are still expanding our dataset and developing the algorithm, we have validated ability to distinguish different pigments in a skin-like environment.
