Our Mission

Current clinical methods for assessing bruises are insufficient, particularly for people of color, and fail to serve abuse victims.

Why It Matters

Too often, signs of abuse—like bruises—go unnoticed, misjudged, or undocumented, especially on darker skin tones. With over 10 million cases of domestic abuse happening in the US alone, almost a staggering 40% impact those of color. When injuries aren’t clearly visible, it becomes harder for survivors to get the care they need, harder for medical teams to make informed decisions, and harder for the justice system to act. That invisibility can leave victims feeling ignored, disbelieved, or unprotected.

As it stands now, current diagnostic tools are not designed with skin tone diversity in mind, leaving critical gaps in both medicine and justice. Even the most skilled clinicians have poor accuracy when it comes to determining the age of a bruise, as their assessments are purely visual and subjective. At DermaVision, we recognize that visibility is not just a medical issue—it’s a human one.

Clinicians only have a 55% accuracy in qualitatively determining bruise age.

Our Commitment

Our mission is grounded in equity, innovation, and compassion. We’re not just building a device—we’re building a tool for change. We collaborate with healthcare providers, local police forces, and forensic experts to ensure our technology meets real needs. We center the voices of those most affected by systemic gaps in care. Because every victim deserves to be seen. Every story deserves to be heard.
